Interventional Cardiology

Dr. Hogan graduated from Georgetown Medical School, where he was elected a member of the Honors Society Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was chosen as Outstanding Intern, and was the Chief Medical Resident. He did his cardiology training at the Baylor/Methodist cardiovascular program, and did an additional year as the McConnell-Wetenhall Fellow in cardiology.

Dr. Hogan is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology. He is a member of multiple medical societies and is a fellow on the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Hogan has been a cardiologist at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital for more then 25 years. He is a member of the Texas Heart Institute and is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Baylor and at the University of Texas/Health Science Center at Houston. He has been the founder and Medical Director of the Learning Resource Center at the Texas Heart Institute for more than ten years. He has multiple administrative duties and responsibilities at St. Luke's Hospital/Texas Heart Institute. He has been chosen Teacher of the Year at the Texas Heart Institute.

Dr. Hogan's clinical interests include atherosclerotic disease, atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease, and valvular and congenital heart disease. He has extensive experience in dealing with transplantations and dealing with patients with arrhythmias, including pacemaker implantation and surveillance. Dr. Hogan has extensive experience in preventive cardiology.

Dr. Hogan's research interests are primarily in the use of medical informatics and the application of decision analysis techniques to complex medical problems.

Dr. Hogan is the founder and President of Southwest Cardiovascular Consultants. He is on the Board of Directors of Cardiovascular Care Providers, and the Global Healthcare Alliance.

R. David Fish, M.D., F.A.C.C.R. David Fish, M.D., F.A.C.C.
Interventional Cardiology

Initially educated as an electrical engineer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Fish graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, and as the winner of the Hemphill Award for Internal Medicine, he completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston where as a member of the faculty he received the Physician-Scientist Research Award from the National Institutes of Health. He performed dedicated research at the Arizona Heart Institute developing the technique for vascular stenting now in widespread use. He established the vascular stenting program at the Texas Heart Institute in 1990 and is the Director of Interventional Cardiology Research and Education. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease and is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Fish is among the most experienced practitioners of coronary and peripheral vascular stenting procedures and has instructed and lectured widely on interventional cardiology techniques. He has lead many research efforts for new treatments in interventional cardiology including coronary radiation therapy and drug-coated stents to prevent re-narrowing of angioplastied arteries. His current research includes the closure of atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovales (holes in the atrial septum) with catheter devices, dissolving of blood clots in the coronary arteries, and the development of a catheter-implanted heart valve.

Emerson C. Perin, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.C.Emerson C. Perin, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.C.
Interventional Cardiology

Dr. Perin graduated from Medical School in Brazil. He completed three years of postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, and three years of cardiology fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute. During his training at the Texas Heart Institute, Dr. Perin was chosen as the Mueller Foundation Cardiology Fellow in 1990 for his research efforts and as the outstanding cardiology fellow of the graduating class of 1991. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Advanced Diagnostic Methods for Heart Disease. Dr. Perin has been a leading interventionalist and researcher at the Texas Heart Institute where he is Director of New Interventional Cardiovascular Technology. Dr. Perin has been involved in the development of drug eluting stents and other interventional devices. He is one of the worldwide pioneers in stem cell research. He was the first to perform stem cell implants in patients in Brazil and is now coordinating the only trial of its kind in the US in Houston.

Dr. Perin is Director of the Stem Cell Center, Director of New Cardiovascular Interventional Technology, and Director of Clinical Research for Cardiovascular Medicine at the Texas Heart Institute.

He lectures internationally on advanced methods of heart diagnosis and treatment.

Jorge Guttin, M.D., F.A.C.C. Jorge Guttin, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Guttin is Assistant Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Health Science Center. He is a Graduate of the University of Mexico School of Medicine, and did his Internship at Jefferson College of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. He completed both his Residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He has been in private practice and has been affiliated with St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital/Texas Heart Institute for 28 years, and the Methodist Hospital for three years.

Guilherme V. Silva, M.D.Guilherme V. Silva, M.D.

Dr. Guilherme Silva earned his medical degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

He completed three years of Cardiology training in Brazil. While in the US, he completed three years of postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Houston, and three years of general Cardiology fellowship and one year of Interventional Cardiology at the Texas Heart Institute. During his training at the Texas Heart Institute, Dr. Silva held the position of Chief Cardiology fellow and Chief Interventional Cardiology fellow and was chosen as the outstanding cardiology fellow of the graduating class of 2007. Dr Silva has been deeply involved with research in cardiovascular diseases more specifically has been one of the pioneers in the utilization stem cells for the treatment of heart attacks and heart failure. He holds the position of Assistant Medical Director at the Stem Cell Center at the Texas Heart Institute.

Dr. Silva is trained in general cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, Echocardiography and Interventional Cardiology including cardiac catheterization, PTCA, coronary stenting, peripheral vascular angioplasty and stenting and rotational atherectomy.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Nuclear Cardiology and Echocardiography.
