Patrick J. Hogan, MD, FACC
“I feel fortunate to have chosen cardiology as my medical specialty at a time when the very nature of the discipline was changing. Heart bypass surgery and heart transplantation were fairly recent advents, and interventional coronary revascularization was on the horizon. I was drawn to cardiology by the prospect that I would be able to have a very significant positive impact on people’s lives, which is the very point of the medical profession. In the decades since I trained at Baylor under renowned cardiologists Dr. Michael DeBakey and Dr. Denton Cooley, the standard of care has changed from documenting disease progression to interrupting the disease process. Being able to do this for patients is remarkably gratifying. I became a physician because I wanted to help people, and people remain my focus. Cardiovascular diseases are pervasive, crippling and frequently lethal. That’s why I’ve spent my career doing whatever I can to help people prevent, overcome or cope with the impact of these problems and live happy, productive lives.”
